“All for ourselves and nothing for other people seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.”
-Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, 1776

Selfishness, greed, power. All of these ooze throughout the music in The Vile Maxim, a grotesquely aggressive, arrogant, and over-the-top piece with deceptive subtleties and nuance.  Suitable for the best of best who want to be pushed to new limits.  This piece does require a minimum number of players on several parts, so this would not be a good fit for a small ensemble.

Written originally for Golden Valley High School, Merced, CA.
