This gorgeous brass chorale, taken from Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection), movement 5, is the focus of this powerful arrangement for Concert Band. The title of the arrangement, What Was Created, Must Perish, is taken from Mahler’s adaption of Die Auferstehung by Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, a poem that Mahler rewrote (aside from the opening 8 lines) as text for the Symphony.
