40 Thieves is based on one of the most familiar of the “Arabian Nights” tales, and has been widely retold and performed. A poor woodcutter who discovers the secret of a thieves’ den. While spying on them he learns that he can get into the den and steal the Thieves treasure by speaking the phrase “Open Sesame”. The thieves learn this and try to kill him, but he manages to elude them and escape with the treasure!
